Abstract

Representative illocutionary acts are speech acts that carry the truth value from the real conditions of the meaning of the utterances spoken or in written conversations. It carries the value of a representation of how to assert or conclude something. There are five representative functions, namely: Stating, Reporting, Concluding, Suggesting, and Complaining. This study aims to determine the types of illocutionary representative functions in sentences spoken in American speech. This study uses the theory of John Searle. The object of this research is illocutionary and representative acts in American Motivational Speech on English Speeches Youtube Channel. The data in this study were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. The results of this study were adjusted to the type of illocutionary speech, namely 173 representatives, namely 36 stating, 10 reporting, 31 concluding, 6 suggesting, and 107 complaining. The writer also found representative functions in American speech, namely 36 stating, 10 reporting, 31 concluding, 6 suggesting, and 107 complaining. The writer concludes that the type of representative illocutionary speech that is most widely used in American Motivational Speeches in English Speech is representative and the most widely used representative function is to state.
