Abstract

This research’s title is Social Phenomenon and Sociocultural Aspects in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Characterization theory is used to examine social topics in this film. The social phenomenon and sociocultural that are present in the film that was chosen as the research’s subject are covered in this research. The methodology used for this research is qualitative and content analysis. The researcher chose characterizations theory for this reserach. In this research, the researcher poses two queries. The first one: How are the social phenomenon aspects described through characterizations in this film, and the second is: How does the sociocultural aspect play a role in this film. There are three methods to determine a character's characterization: through the character's appearance, through dialogue with other characters, and through their actions. Researchers examine the social phenomena and sociocultural structures present in this action and sci-fi genre film using screenshots of several scenes from the film. Based on the findings of the research presented in this research, the researcher draws the conclusion that social topics can be discussed in action and sci-fi genre films much like in real life. Additionally, there is a component of sociocultural aspect in the shape of a long-standing belief that has been maintained and perpetuated by them from generation to generation.
