Abstract
Education is a series of activities that cannot be separated from life. Based on an interview conducted with Biology teacher in high school, it was found that student's metacognitive skills were still very low so it had an impact on the learning process. This research was conducted to find out the effect of the think-pair-share-write learning model on the metacognitive skills of students on Animalia subject. The method used in this research is the quasi experiment method with pretest-posttest non-equivalen control group design. The data analysis used in this research is quantitative analysis which is divided into two, preliminary research analysis and main research analysis. The results of the research show that the think-pair-share-write learning model affects the metacognitive skills of students on Animalia subject, because after the Mann-Whitney test the Asymp.Sig (2-talled) value is 0.000 which is smaller than 0.05. There are many factors that cause the think-pair-share-write learning model to affect the metacognitive skills of students as such as students are given time to find information independently, the number of members in the discussion is small (2-3 people) and writes student's understanding related to the subject that has been studied using their own understanding. The Think-Pair-Share-Write learning model has a significant effect on students' metacognitive skills with an N-Gain value of 0.5148 which means it has moderate criteria.
