Abstract

This research is motivated by the low mental arithmetic of students which is shown from the results of a preliminary study by researchers at one of the Madrasah Tsanawiyah in West Bandung Regency. One way that can help improve students' mental arithmetic is by using the Sampoa media with the help of the Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) application. The purpose of this study was to determine: (a) Differences in mental arithmetic improvement between students who used Sampoa media with the help of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) applications and students who used conventional learning. (b) Students' attitudes towards learning mathematics using Sampoa media with the help of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) applications. This research was conducted at MTs Muslimin Cicangkang Girang in grades VII-A and VII-B with the research method used, namely the quasi-experimental method with the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The data obtained using a research instrument in the form of a test. The results of the research are as follows: (a) The average increase in students' mental arithmetic (N-Gain) after obtaining mathematics learning using Sampoa media assisted by the Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) application is 0.43 and the average N-Gain in conventional learning is 0.33. (b) Attitudes of students in learning mathematics using Sampoa media with the help of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) applications, most of the students gave a positive attitude.
