Abstract
Conversation is a human interaction activity which two or more people use linguistic forms and nonverbal signals to communicate interactively. The purposes of this study are determining the types and functions of commissive speech acts used by the main character. Using Ibrahim's theory (1993) on commissive speech acts used by the main characters in Wonder. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with purposive sampling technique. The research data is taken from dialogues containing commissive speech acts in Wonder (2017). The types of commissive illocutionary acts found in the speech of the main characters in the film Wonder (2017), obtained 40 data points, 30 promises and 10 offers in the type of promise. There are 18 assure functions and 6 threat functions, 5 accept functions and 1 curse function, while for 10 types of offers, there are 7 proposal functions and 3 voluntary functions. This is because in the film Wonder (2017), the adopted characters are children who are still in the process of development so that the commissive type promises, a promise is something that must be kept. While the type of commissives offers not too much because the condition of the child cannot be said to be capable when accepting the offer.
