Abstract

ENGLISH : This thesis discusses the personality development of Tom’s character in Leave No Trace, a film directed by Debra Granik. The portrayal of a homeless young girl who was living in the forest park along with her father who is a PTSD sufferer is quite an uncommon theme for a film and not an everyday life phenomenon to be found, leaving an interesting aspect of the film Leave No Trace to be studied. This study has two objectives: (1) to describe how is Tom portrayed in the Leave No Trace film directed by Debra Granik before and after getting caught by the police, ranger, and social worker, and (2) to know what are the aspects that influence Tom’s personality development and to describe how do those aspects influence Tom’s personality development in Debra Granik’s film titled Leave No Trace according to Elizabeth Hurlock’s theory. This research was conducted using Hurlock’s personality development theory. The data source was taken from the film Leave No Trace directed by Debra Granik in the form of screenshots and dialogue pieces. The researcher uses Hurlock’s personality development theory which is supported by other theories which related to the statement of the problem and research objective. In analyzing, the researcher was using qualitative methods to analyze in a descriptive way. The results of the study are as follows. First, before Tom was getting caught by the police, ranger, and social worker, she is bad-tempered due to hunger (hangry), obedient, dependent, soft-spoken, and oblivious person. After getting caught, Tom becomes collected, disobedient, independent, outspoken, and aware as a person. Second, aspects that have influenced her personality development, by using Hurlock’s personality development theory, out of eight determinants that can influence a person’s personality, intellectual determinants, emotional determinants, social determinants, and family determinants are the aspects that have been influencing Tom’s personality development. In conclusion, Tom was bad-tempered due to hunger (hangry), obedient, dependent, soft-spoken, and oblivious. Then, she becomes collected, disobedient, independent, outspoken, and aware. The development in her personality is influenced by intellectual determinants, emotional determinants, social determinants, and family determinants. INDONESIA : Skripsi ini membahas tentang perkembangan kepribadian karakter Tom dalam film Leave No Trace yang disutradarai oleh Debra Granik. Penggambaran seorang gadis muda tunawisma yang tinggal di taman hutan bersama ayahnya yang merupakan penderita PTSD adalah tema yang cukup langka untuk sebuah film dan bukan fenomena kehidupan sehari-hari yang mudah ditemukan, menjadikan aspek yang menarik dari film ini untuk diteliti. Penelitian ini memiliki dua tujuan: (1) mendeskripsikan bagaimana Tom digambarkan dalam film Leave No Trace yang disutradarai oleh Debra Granik sebelum dan sesudah ditangkap oleh polisi, penjaga hutan, dan pekerja sosial, (2) untuk mengetahui aspek yang mempengaruhi perkembangan kepribadian karakter Tom serta untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana aspek-aspek tersebut mempengaruhi perkembangan kepribadian karakter Tom dalam film Debra Granik berjudul Leave No Trace menurut teori milik Elizabeth Hurlock. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan teori perkembangan kepribadian Hurlock. Sumber data diambil dari film Leave No Trace yang disutradarai oleh Debra Granik dalam bentuk potongan screenshot dan dialog. Peneliti menggunakan teori perkembangan kepribadian Hurlock yang didukung oleh teori-teori lain yang berkaitan dengan rumusan masalah dan tujuan penelitian. Dalam menganalisis, peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk menganalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian adalah sebagai berikut. Pertama, sebelum Tom ditangkap, dia pemarah karena kelaparan (hangry), patuh, tidak mandiri, berbicara dengan lembut, dan tidak menyadari situasi yang dialami. Setelah tertangkap, Tom menjadi tenang, tidak patuh, mandiri, blak-blakan, dan sadar akan situasi yang dialami. Kedua, aspek-aspek yang mempengaruhi perkembangan kepribadiannya, dengan menggunakan teori perkembangan kepribadian Hurlock, dari delapan determinan yang dapat mempengaruhi kepribadian seseorang, determinan intelektual, determinan emosional, determinan sosial, dan determinan keluarga merupakan aspek yang telah mempengaruhi perkembangan kepribadian Tom. Kesimpulannya adalah sebelumnya Tom pemarah karena kelaparan (hangry), patuh, tidak mandiri, berbicara dengan lembut, dan tidak menyadari situasi yang dialami. Kemudian, dia menjadi tenang, tidak patuh, mandiri, blak-blakan, dan sadar akan siatuasi yang dialami. Perkembangan kepribadiannya dipengaruhi oleh determinan intelektual, emosional, sosial, dan keluarga.
