Abstract

This study discusses how William Blake’s selected poems describe spirituality through the metaphors that found in there. The writer uses the theory of metaphor from Lakoff and Johnson as the main surgical theory and the theory of spirituality by Piedmont. The method used by the writer is a literature study method with a qualitative descriptive way through an expressive approach. Based on the analysis, giventhe result is shown that explicit teaching of metaphor. In 10 of William Black's poems, the writer finds metaphors in each of his poems. There are three type of metaphor expression that represented in the selected poems with result; 26 data of ontological metaphors, 17 data of orientational metaphors, and 6 data of structural metaphors. So the total data of the first objective is 49 data. Of the three types of Piedmont spirituals, all of them are in these 10 poems which lead to the subjective experience of what is existentially relevant to humans such Universality, Connectedness and Prayer Fulfillment.
