Abstract

ENGLISH : A song can be called a bridge to the feelings of the listeners of the song lyrics. However, the use of linguistic aspects in the song often has ambiguous words, thus making the audience of the song understand more than one meaning and misunderstand. The purposes of this research are to reveal the true meaning of the song lyrics in the Calm album by 5 Seconds of Summer which contains many ambiguous words by showing the process of analyzing song lyrics from the linguistic aspect of lexical ambiguity. Starting from finding the types of lexical ambiguity in the Calm album, then finding the meaning of the lexical ambiguity in the Calm album. This research uses Hurford and Heasley’s theory to analyze lexical ambiguity and Murphy’s theory to determine the form of lexical ambiguity. While the meaning of the words in the lyrics of the song using the Oxford Dictionary by Hornby. The research design used a qualitative descriptive analysis approach. The data source is from the Apple Music app. The results of the research found 31 data of lexical ambiguity in 12 songs, including 29 words out of 27 data of polysemy, 5 words out of 4 data of absolute homonyms, homonymy homophone and homograph data are not found in this album. The ambiguity in this album seems to be made for the beauty of the lyrics in pronunciation, spelling and meaning, so listeners of this album need to look at the text and context of the song. INDONESIA : Sebuah lagu bisa disebut sebagai jembatan perasaan penikmat lirik lagu. Namun penggunaan aspek kebahasaan dalam lagu seringkali memiliki kata-kata yang ambigu, sehingga membuat penikmat lagu memahami lebih dari satu makna bahkan salah memahami. Tujuan penelitian ingin mengungkapkan makna sebenarnya dari lirik lagu dalam album Calm oleh 5 Seconds of Summer yang banyak mengandung kata-kata ambigu dengan cara menunjukkan proses analisis lirik lagu dari aspek kebahasaan ambiguitas leksikal. Diawali dari mencari temuan jenis ambiguitas leksikal yang ada dalam album Calm kemudian menemukan makna dari ambiguitas leksikal yang ada dalam album Calm. Penelitian ini menggunakaan teori Hurford dan Heasley untuk menganalisis ambiguitas leksikal dan teori Murphy untuk menentukan bentuk ambiguitas leksikal. Sedangkan arti kata dalam lirik lagu menggunakan Oxford Dictionary by Hornby. Desain penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif pendekatan analisis deskriptif. Sumber data dari aplikasi Apple Music. Hasil penelitian ditemukan 31 data ambiguitas leksikal dalam 12 lagu, diantaranya polisemi 29 dari 27 data, absolute homonym 5 dari 4 data, data homonimi homofon dan homograf tidak ditemukan dalam album ini. Ambiguitas dalam Album lagu ini nampak dibuat untuk keindahan lirik pada pelafalan, ejaan dan makna maka para pendengar album ini perlu melihat teks dan konteks dari lagu tersebut agar memahami lirik lagunya.
