Abstract
One of the most important language skills is listening. Listening is essential in everyday life and the classroom, as it is needed for people to maintain effective communication. When listening, the students still get difficulty to know the meaning what they heard and to get the information of the text. Dictogloss is a classroom activity where the listener is given the oral text. They must rewrite the text using their keywords. Then they can write it down in their own words The research focuses on improve students’s ability in listening. This research have some research purpose are: 1) To carry out students listening skills before being taught Dictogloss technique in teaching listening 2) To find out how far students listening skills after being taught the Dictogloss technique in teaching listening skill 3) To find out how far improved students listening skills after being taught the Dictogloss technique in teaching listening skill. The study employed a quantitative methodology and included a preexperimental investigation with one class and a pre-test of one group. The same treatment is compared before and after by the researcher. Because the outcome of the treatment may be compared to the pre-treatment state, the result can be predicted more precisely. The pre-test and post-test methods were used to get the data. Purposive sampling is a technique to select 26 students to participate in the experimental group. This study was conducted of six meetings, with one pretest, four treatments, and one posttest. The pretest was given to see basic skill of students in listening and the posttest was given to find out how far students improvement after given the treatment The findings of this study demonstrate that the implementation of dictogloss technique in teaching listening have resulted in significant improvements. The mean score before treatment was 36.55, meanwhile, after pretest score was 77.88 on average. The t-test result (9.802 > 1.705) was more significant than the t-table value. The strategy so demonstrates that the implementation of dictogloss technique is effective in teaching listening and could improve stduents’ listening.
