Abstract
This study investigates the extent to which the story completion technique is used in teaching speaking classes. This study aims (1) to determine the teacher implement story completion techniques supported by folktales to teach speaking, (2) to determine the students’ perception of the use of the Story Completion technique supported by folktale in speaking lessons. This study uses case study design of qualitative method. A case study was implemented because this study wants to understand a phenomenon which is students' responses toward the implementation of Story Completion Technique. This study was conducted with a total of 16 students and also chose the teacher as research subject in An-Nur junior high school. To gain the data, the researcher conducted questionnaire and interview. This study found that story completion can be implemented in learning activities. This study also found that the better the students’ are speaking development, the better the speaking performance using this technique. In addition, the study found students' responses to the application of the story completion technique as follows: 1) Students considered that the activity was useful and beneficial for them, and 2) Students felt positive and were more daring to share their knowledge in speaking using this technique, and 3) Students participated well during the lesson and gave their best to do the task, and 4) The students rated this activity as a valuable and recommended technique in learning. In conclusion, story completion can be applied in learning speaking skills of students in the classroom. In addition, this activity is recommended for teachers to be applied in English speaking classes.
