Abstract

Code mixing can be simply defined as mixing different languages in one speech event. In this research the mixed languages are English and Indonesian. Mixing Indonesian and English is common in this globalization era. Often found Indonesian insert English in communicating. The use of code mixing cannot be separated from the user's language background from the speaker and also the listener for the same ease. This is an analytical study based on the theory of Musyken (2000) to determine types and Saville-Troik (1986) to determine factors. Today's code-mixing is exemplified in an episode of Boy William in PUELLA ID YouTube channel, which contains the mixing of Indonesian and English languages. Therefore this study discusses: (1) What kind of code mixing appeared in the talk show PUELLA ID Episode Boy William? (2) What are the factors of using code-mixing shown in the talk show PUELLA ID Episode Boy William? The method that researchers use in this research is descriptive qualitative method. Qualitative research examines the perspective of participants with interactive and flexible strategies. Qualitative research aims to understand social phenomena from the perspective of the participants. The results obtained based on the questions above: (1) the types used are insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. (2) factors used in code mixing Softening/Strengthening a Request, Lexical Need, Limiting the Audience.
