Abstract

INDONESIA : Penelitian yang mengkaji sampul buku sejarah Islam menggunakan perspektif ilmu sejarah masih terbilang cukup terbatas. Maka penelitian ini sengaja mengkaji sampul buku sejarah Islam terbitan Pustaka Setia di Bandung (2008-2015), batasan temporal dan parsial tersebut dipilih karena adanya peristiwa booming penerapan ilustrasi artefak Islam dalam sampul buku sejarah Islam terbitan Pustaka Setia di tahun tersebut dan juga penelitian tentang hal tersebut nampaknya belum pernah dilakukan oleh para peneliti lainnya. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi bagaimana sejarah pendirian dan perkembangan penerbit Pustaka Setia di Bandung dan mengidentifikasi bagaimana penerapan ilustrasi artefak Islam dalam delapan sampul buku sejarah Islam terbitan Pustaka Setia (2008-2015). Penelitian ini menggunakan teori yang dikemukakan oleh John A. Walker yang menyebutkan bahwa studi sejarawan adalah dokumen dan gambar yang disimpan dalam arsip baik perpustakaan, museum dan koleksi pribadi yang kemudian dikumpulkan guna mengumpulkan informasi tentang barang-barang yang dirancang kemudian sejarawan dapat mengkategorikan, mengklasifikasikan, membandingkan, menafsirkan dan mengevaluasi artefak yang dirancang juga meminjam ide dari disiplin akademis lainnya untuk merefleksikan batasan dan tujuan dari sejarah. Kemudian metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian sejarah yang cara kerjanya terdiri dari empat tahap; heuristik, kritik, interpretasi dan historiografi. Penelitian ini memiliki dua hasil yakni; pertama, Pustaka Setia didirikan pada tahun 1993 sebagai sebuah perusahaan penerbitan dan percetakan oleh H. Misri Tanjung. Pada fase pertama perusahaan ini menitikberatkan buku-buku untuk kalangan SD-SMA, difase selanjutnya perusahan ini menggeser fokus utamanya untuk menerbitkan buku-buku Islam bagi kalangan mahasiswa dan umum. Kedua, setelah diuraikan satu persatu tentang bagaimana penerapan ilustrasi artefak Islam dalam sampul buku sejarah Islam terbitan Pustaka Setia di Bandung (2008-2015) dapat dikatakan bahwa penerapan ilustrasi artefak Islam dalam tiga sampul buku yakni; Sejarah Peradaban Islam, Sejarah & Kebudayaan Islam, Sejarah Pendidikan Islam dinilai membantu memperjelas isi buku sedangkan sisanya tidak membantu memperjelas isi buku, ilustrasi artefak Islam hanya digunakan sebagai penghias atau pengisi ruang-ruang kosong saja. ENGLISH : Research that examines the cover of Islamic history books using the perspective of historical science is still quite limited. This research deliberately examines the cover of Islamic history books published by Pustaka Setia in Bandung (2008-2015), the temporal and partial boundries were chosen because of the booming in the application of illustrations of Islamic artifacts on the covers of Islamic History books published by Pustaka Setia in that year and also research on this matter. This seems to have never been done by other researchers. The purpose of this research is to identify the history of establishment and development of Pustaka Setia in Bandung. In addition, to identify how the illustrations of Islamic artifacts are applied in the eight cover Islamic history books published by Pustaka Setia (2008-2015). This study uses the theory put forward by John A. Walker which states that historian studies are documents and pictures that are stored in the archives of both libraries, museums and private collections which are then collected to collect information about the items designed then historians can categorize, classify, comparing, interpreting and evaluating the designed artifacts also borrows ideas from other academic disciplines to reflect the boundaries and goals of history. Then the method in this study uses the historical research method whose working method consists of four stages; heuristics, criticism, interpretation and historiography. This research has two results, namely: first, Pustaka Setia was founded in 1993 as a publishing and printing company by H Misri Tanjung. -Islamic books for students and Second, after describing one by one on how to apply illustrations of Islamic artifacts in the cover of Islamic history books published by Pustaka Setia in Bandung (2008-2015), it can be said that the application of illustrations of Islamic artifacts in three book covers, namely: History of Islamic Civilization, Islamic History & Culture, History of Islamic Education is considered to help clarify the contents of the book while the rest does not help clarify the book’s content, illustrations of Islamic artifacts are only used to decorate or fill empty spaces.
