Abstract

Simbol adalah suatu tanda yang mempunyai arti di dalamnya, simbol-simbol yang terdapat pada analisis ini, hanya dua yakni simbol pada sebuah kata, kalimat dan simbol pada sebuah gambar. Simbol tersebut dapat di analisis secara literal dan secara deskriptif. Secara literal hanya di analisis secara kamus dalam mencari pemaknaannya, sedangkan secara deskriptif menganalisisnya cukup luas tidak terpaku pada kamus, dengan keadaan seperti itu peneliti hanya membatasi pemaknaan deskriptif pada kehidupan dan kematian saja. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dan dengan deskriftif analisis untuk menganalisa dan menginterpretasikan data . Data dikumpulkan dengan cara mengambil langsung dari film, yakni film Into the Wild, data tersebut diambil karena ada keterkaitannya dengan kehidupan dan kematian. Data kemudian di analisis menggunakan teori Northrop Frye’s theory of symbol, taken from the book of Northop Frye; phase: symbol as monad. But Phase Symbol as Motif as Sign sebagai dasar penelitian dan Film Into The Wild sebagai sumber data dalam penelitian ini, dan data yang telah diambil langsung dari film dipilih ketika data tersebut ada keterkaitannya Anatomy of Critiscism: Four Essays. Frye’s theory of consists of four phases: symbol as motif and as sign, formal phase: symbol as image, mythical phase: symbol as archetype, and anagogic. Setelah menganalisa simbol dalam kehidupan dan kepamtian pada film Into the Wild, dapat disimpulkan bahwa dalam menganalisa suatu simbol, simbol tersebut dapat menjelaskan bahwa ia tidak hanya mempunyai satu arti saja, dan dalam simbol tersebut pada suatu tempat akan berbeda pemaknannya, simbol tersebut dapat dilihat menjadi simbol yang mengisyaratkan kematian atau mengisyaratkan kehidupan, itu tergantung bagaimana simbol tersebut di analisis. After analyzing the symbol of life and death on Into the Wild movie, there can be concluded that in analyzing a symbol, the symbol may explain if it was not has a single meaning, in different place the symbol could refers in another meaning. The symbol can be seen as a sign of death or as a sign of life, and it depend how the symbol being analyzed. Every symbol is sign and every sign has meaning which refers to condition around it. It could refer to textual or contextual meaning. As in this research, the analysis concerns to two kinds of symbol that appear in words or sentences and image as the representation of life and death. Symbols in this analysis can be analyzed by literal and descriptive phase. Literal phase serves the analysis which shows literal meaning of the symbol. It is like lexical meaning which is taken from dictionary. Meanwhile, descriptive phase shows the analysis by seeking contextual meaning. It expands the analysis of symbol to be more complex. In descriptive phase, the researcher only focuses to the life and death symbol. Qualitative method is used in this research by applying descriptive analysis for analyzing and interpreting the data. The data is taken from Into the Wild movie. Those data relate to life and death symbol. The analysis applies Northrop Frye’s theory which is taken from the book of Northop Frye; phase: symbol as monad in Anatomy of Critiscism: Four Essays consists of four phases: literal and descriptive phase: symbol as motif and sign, formal phase: symbol as image, mythical phase: symbol as archetype, and anagogic. But in this analysis focus for applying literal and descriptive phase only, symbol as motif and sign.
