Abstract

This paper discusses the character complexity of Freddie Mercury in the movie: Bohemian Rhapsody. From the title of this paper, it can be seen that the object of research is the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. The researcher will look for an overview of the character complexity of Freddie Mercury and relate it to the Narrative element. Narrative elements are the elements that make up a story. These elements include introduction, background, events, characters, conflict, development, and resolution. To analyze the object, the researcher uses Saymour Chatman's theory. The method used in this research is qualitative analysis method and text in literature. This research not only looks for the complexity of Freddie Mercury's character but also assesses the aspects of Ideology that help build the Bohemian ideology represented in this film. By understanding and analyzing ideology, this research presents three aspects that can be assessed as ideology, namely analysis of how ideology affects thinking and behavior, reflection on how ideology contributes to social problems, and identification of the source and background of the ideology. The results of this study show how events and existence influence and illustrate the complexity of Freddie Mercury in this film, then by understanding and analyzing ideology. It can be understood how certain ideas influence the worldview and actions of the characters in the movie.
