Abstract

Symbol is literary device that contains several layers of meaning, often concealed at first sight, and is representative of several other aspects, concepts or traits than those that are visible in the literal translation alone. Symbol is using an object or action that means something more than its literal meaning. Symbol also can be found in the war themed movie The Patriot. The aim of this research is to find out the triadic element process on the battle symbol that appear in the movie. Writer use Triadic elements theory by Charles Sanders Peirce to process and analyze the representamen, object, and interpretant on the screenshot taken from movie scenes. After collecting the data captured by screenshot the movie clip, writer analyzing the meaning of the picture and the symbols it representing. The result of this research show the meaning of each symbol and how they can be applied to real life too.
