Abstract

Comparative literature is the study of the comparison of two or more literary works. Through the process of comparing literary works, the researcher analyzes the comparison of the novel Laila Majnun by Nizami Gunjavi with the drama Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. These two literary works have the same story but were written by different authors. This study has two problems: (1) How is love in Nizami's laila Majnun and William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet? (2) What are the similarities and differences in love between Nizami's Laila Majnun and William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet? To answer and analyze these questions, the researcher uses Lee's theory which presents the theory of love. This study uses a qualitative method, the research process is to find love and similarities and differences in love in the novel Laila Majnun and the drama Romeo and Juliet. As a result, the researchers found that the love contained in the two literary works is eternal love. The love similarities between Laila Majnun's novel and the Drama Romeo and Juliet are love that cannot be united, love that is not approved and love separated by death. The difference in love between Laila Majnun's novel and Romeo and Juliet's drama is struggle and courage.
