Abstract

Pronunciation is one of the important aspects in English, there are many people who underestimate or find it difficult to learn pronunciation, especially sounds that use friction or breath so that not a few people make pronunciation errors. The researcher will examine the pronunciation of English fricative consonants, the researcher will describe (1) What are the pronunciation error of English fricative consonants spoken by students of Miftahuttaufiq Islamic boarding schools? (2) What factors causing the pronunciation error of English fricative consonants spoken by students of Miftahuttaufiq Islamic boarding schools? The researcher used the theory of H. Douglas Brown to answer this question. The researcher applies qualitative descriptive method in doing this research involves a collection of techniques used to specify in this study will use qualitative with the method of recording video. the researcher will prepare the text to be read by the students of Miftahuttaufiq Islamic Boarding schoolThe researcher analyzed using oxford dictionary to facilitate data analysis because of the phonetic symbol, in the data results the researcher found several pronunciation errors of english fricative consonants spoken by students of Miftahuttaufiq islamic boarding school there are initial position /f/, /v/, /θ/, /ð/, /s/, /z/ and /ʃ/ sound, in medial position /f/, /v/, /θ/, /ð/, /s/, /z/, /ʃ/ and /ʒ/ sound, in final position /f/, /v/, /θ/, /ð/, /z/, /ʃ/ and /ʒ/ sound. The researcher found several factors of pronunciation errors, among others, due to interlingual, namely the first language of students, namely Arabic, which affects the pronunciation of the second language, namely English, besides that due to intralingual factors, namely due to the lack of knowledge of students. M.A. Pronunciation merupakan salah satu aspek penting dalam bahasa inggris, banyak sekali orang-orang yang meremehkan atau merasa kesulitan mempelajari pengucapan terutama bunyi-bunyi yang menggunakan gesekan atau nafas sehingga tidak sedikit yang membuat pengucapan eror. Peneliti akan meneliti pelafalan bunyi gesekan konsonan. Peneliti akan mendeskripsikan (1) apa saja pengucapan gesekan konsonan eror yang diucapkan oleh pelajar pondok pesantren miftahuttaufiq? (2) Apa saja factor yang menyebabkan pengucapan eror pada bunyi gesekan dalam konsonan yang diucapkan oleh pelajar pondok pesantren miftahuttaufiq? Peneliti menggunakan teori dari H. Douglas Brown untuk menjawab pertanyaan tersebut. Peneliti menerapkan metode deskriptif kualitatif dalam melakukan penelitian ini menggunakan Teknik mengumpulkan data. Dalam penelitian ini akan menggunakan kualitatif dengan metode perekaman video. peneliti akan menyiapkan teks yang akan dibaca oleh para santri Pondok Pesantren Miftahuttaufiq, peneliti menganalisis dengan menggunakan bantuan kamus oxford untuk mempermudah analisis data karena adanya phonetic simbol, pada hasil data peneliti menemukan beberapa pengucapan eror dalam inggris gesekan konsonan yang diucapkan oleh pelajar pondok pesantren Miftahuttaufiq pada posisi awal diantaranya bunyi /f/, /v/, /θ/, /ð/, /s/, /z/ dan /ʃ/, pada posisi tengah terdapat bunyi /f/, /v/, /θ/, /ð/, /s/, /z/, /ʃ/ dan /ʒ/, pada posisi akhir terdapat bunyi /f/, /v/, /θ/, /ð/, /z/, /ʃ/ dan /ʒ/ . Peneliti menemukan beberapa faktor pengucapan error tersebut diantaranya karena interlingual yaitu bahasa pertama pelajar yaitu bahasa arab mempengaruhi pada pengucapan bahasa kedua yaitu bahasa inggris, selain itu karena intralingual faktor yaitu karena kurangnya pengetahuan pelajar.
