Abstract
This study aims to find out the symbols of each character that has magical powers in the film Encanto (2021) using Ferdinand De Saussure's Semiotics theory of Signifier and Signified, namely a signifier is an object that exists in the form of an image, sound, or it can also be an expression. Signified, namely the meaning or concept of the Signifier. This study uses descriptive qualitative analysis, namely data from a study presented in the form of words in paragraphs, which makes the data described in more detail. The data obtained is in the form of visual and verbal signs obtained from the film and also the scriptwriter Encanto. The symbols obtained from several scenes taken in the film are categorized as visual signs and verbal signs are taken from dialogues between characters in the scriptwriter. From these signs, 27 visual signs and 40 verbal signs were obtained which resulted in 27 markers and 27 signs. The result is that each character has its sign according to its strength, these marks can be from traits, clothes, faces, and also objects around the character.
