Abstract
This study discusses the violating maxim that is done by Conan Gray during the conversation between him and Zach Sang. Conan’s utterances when he answered Zach’s question that is music-themed is analyzed to find out if Conan’s answer violated the maxims rules. Conan Gray’s answer cannot be spared from doing mistakes, such as instead of giving a proper answer, Conan gave an answer that is not even asked by Zach. There are two questions in this research. The first is what maxims of cooperative principles are violated in Conan Gray Interview. The second one is what makes the maxims of cooperative principle violated in Conan Gray Interview. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive method. The data that has been collected was analyzed with cooperative principle’s theory. This study obtained 29 data that violated the maxim of cooperative principle. The maxim that is violated the most is the maxim of quantity. In addition, there are 28 data obtained of the reason why Conan violated the maxim. The reason that is most used has a purpose to give clearer information.
