Abstract

One of the functions of affixation is to change thepart of speech and meaning in a language.The research was conducted 1). To find out the difference of affixation in Jane Austen’s Pride and prejudice in Bahasa Version and Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in English Version, 2). To analyze the meaning of affixation between Bahasa and English words which are constructed in Jane Austen’sPride and Prejudice in Bahasa version and Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in English Version. The theories used in this research are based on Alwasilah’s and Yule’s theory of affixation and meaning. This research used descriptive method by which the writer in order to answer the difference of affixation in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in Bahasa and English Version and to answer the meaning of affixation between Bahasa and English words which are constructed in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in Bahasa and English Version. The data were taken from Pride and Prejudice in Bahasa and English Version. There are 100 data that related to affixes consisting of 50 data in Bahasa Version and 50 data in English Version. The result shows that of 100 data, the writer found 20 words prefix, 2 words suffix, and 28 words confix in Bahasa Version, and found 1 word derivational prefix, 29 words derivational suffix, 3 words derivational confix, 3 words inflectional prefix, 12 words suffix, and 2 words inflectional confix in English Version. In relation to the meaning of affixation, the writer found 2 kinds of the meaning, there are lexical and contextual meaning. The most easy of understanding the meaning is contextual meaning.In conclusion, the difference of words in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in Bahasa and English Version are constructed through process of affixation.
