Abstract

This paper has analyzed the woman’s roles in marriage by contract taken from Marco’s Conveniet Wife Novel. The novel deals with modern women issues, especially about the inner conflicts of marriage which often occur in the society. There are two objectives of the research in Marco’s Convenient Wife novel. The first object is to describe how the roles of main character in the marriage by a contract. The second object is to find out the aspect of sociology that happens to a woman who is married by contract. Therefore, the primary data are gained from Marco’s Covenient Wife novel. The theory of this research is the women sociology which involves a set of women’s problems in the society life, such as the treatment of the men toward the women. Alice’s role who is a nanny for Angelina in Marco’s Convenient Wife novel is asked by Marco to take care of Angelina. Marco is a rich man. He has a niece whose name is Angelina. Sex problems that happen to Alice are fully influenced by power relations. Feminism separates the women who are oppressed, disriminated, exploited, and ignored. The first result shows that Alice is one of examples of the women in the world who has been underestimated by a man whose name is Marco. Marco thinks that Alice is a powerless woman who can be treated freely. Marco just sees Alice as a woman who can satisfy Marco’s sex passion. Marco thinks that Alice’s body often invites Marco’s sex passion. If she were not a nanny for Angelina, Alice would leave Marco’s house. Moreover, Marco asks Alice to take care of Alice as well as possible. Alice is ready to sacrifice her life for Angelina. Angelina also thinks that Alice is her real mother. The second result, in the aspect of sociology, shows that Alice, in Marco convenient wife novel, often encounters pressures from Marco because Alice must do multiple roles at Marco’s house. Alice must not only become the nanny but also satisfy Marco who wants to get the sexuality satisfaction from Alice. Alice gets the pressure from Marco both physically and mentally. The physical pressure Alice gets is the house work. Alice must also look after Angelina. The mental pressure that Alice gets is to satisfy Marco’s sex passion. This analysis can be said that Marco’s Convenient Wife novel portray considers the women as the creature who can be treated freely. So, women sociology is fundamental and cannot be reduced for the social organization. The theory is the causal factor for the women subordination because they cannot reflect and express their freedoms.
