Abstract
Loneliness and psychological distress are two problems that are often experienced by juvenile detainees at the Class II A Bandung Children's Special Correctional Institution. Seeing two problems, this study aims to determine the role of social support in moderating the effect of loneliness on psychological distress in juvenile detainees at the Class II Special Penitentiary for Children in Bandung. The research method used for this research is a cross-sectional design. Eighty-one juvenile detainees became participants in this study, obtained by convenience sampling technique. The study's Moderated Regression Analysis results obtained a beta value for the interaction variable (between loneliness and social support) of 0.022 and a significance of 0.045 <0.05, meaning that social support is appropriate as a moderator variable. The resulting beta value decreased from 0.584 to 0.022, which implies that social support is a variable that can reduce the effect of loneliness on psychological distress in juvenile detainees at the Special Correctional Institution for Class II A Children in Bandung.
