Abstract

After being selected to be a mayor of Bandung in 2013,Ridwan Kamil often uses social media to interact with his citizen, particularly in twitter. It is his tweets that become the object of the research. This thesis has two major concerns; first the research identifies the mood types and clause constituent of tweets constructed by Ridwan Kamil in his tweets. Second, the research examines how the mood system in Ridwan Kamil’s tweets indicate his interpersonal relation with the readers. The theory proposed by Hallidayan analytical framework based on mood system is used to support the analysis. The research found that the mood types in Ridwan Kamil’s tweets are 49.2% as declarative, 19,1% as imperative, and the rest are elliptical clauses, minor clauses, polar interrogative and WH-interrogative from 63 clauses. Based on the Hallidayan framework in this research, Ridwan Kamil indicates to reduce interpersonal distances with the readers. It can be seen from the subject ‘it’ in analyzed clauses of Ridwan Kamil’s tweets. The contribution of the choice of ‘it’, which point out the thing or moment directly relating to the situation or issues, shows the existence of Ridwan Kamil at that moment. Moreover, Ridwan Kamil indicates to limit the formality with the readers as well. It can be seen from the 10 elliptical clauses which make simple sentences to the readers to be informal.t can be concluded that Ridwan Kamil’s tweets indicate his interpersonal relation with the readers.
