Abstract

A language can be understood by other language users by way of knowing the meaning. Including how to understand idiomatic expressions which are found in movie, novel, and so on. Based on statement above, this research focused on the categories of idiomatic expression found in Frozen movie script and how those categorized idiomatic expression are understood. To answer the research problem above, the writer used Swan’s theory to the categorize of idiomatic expression, and Howard theory to those categorized idiomatic expression understood. The used method in this research is descriptive qualitative. It is used the data that are collected and described the data. Through identifying, classifying, interpreting, and concluding the result of data analyses. The data took from Frozen Movie Script. The research showed that there are three categories of idiomatic expressions in Frozen movie script; first type is Opened Classes Idiom of which it has 38 data, the second type is Close Classes Idiom of which it has 10 data, and the last type is Idiom with special categories of which it has 10 data. Those idiomatic expression were then defined lexically and grammatically to help readers understand the idioms. The writer concluded that the research from Frozen movie script is that many idioms appears and it influences on the comprehension of sentence. Finally, idioms to be more interesting in the next discussion.
