Abstract
Taboo words exist everywhere. Many teenager and students especially English education department students use taboo words to talk or comment about something without knowing the rules and the scale of offence in each word. This is very harmful because taboo words are immoral and inappropriate, using taboo words often will leads them into negative habitual speech. Moreover, taboo words sometimes contain of racism, sexism, and religious extremist that can be insulted another person. This research aim to 1) To observe what kinds of taboo words are used by the students in their daily conversation; 2) To find how often do the students use taboo words in their daily conversation; and 3)To reflect what are the students’ reason of using taboo words in their daily conversation. This study uses qualitative case study method. While the data collects by interviewing and observation techniques. The subject of this research is Students of English Education Department 8th Semester in State Islamic Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. The results of this research are stated as follows; firstly abusive and expletive are the most often types of taboo word that the students use in their daily conversation, while auxiliary is in the second place, and no one of them use humorous taboo words. Secondly, the frequency of using taboo words among students depends on their speaking partner or their friends, if their friends use many taboo words they will reply with many taboo words in their speaking. Further, most of the students admitted that they only used taboo words rarely. The last most of students used taboo words only for jokes, or as conversational habits
