Abstract
Listening is a fundamental and main part of language skill, because it is the way of learning the language. It means that if students are still lack of listening skill, they will consider that English subject is difficult to learn. To provide solution to this problem, one of teaching can be applied to listening skill by using language laboratory. The purpose of the study is to verify whether the third grade of SMP Negeri 1 Cimenyan teachs using language laboratory is better in listening skill than that of student teach listening skill using non language laboratory. This research is intended to obtain logical and reliable information whether there is significance different between students’ listening skill of control and experimental class. This research used experimental method by dividing experimental class (teaching listening using language laboratory) and control class (teaching listening using no language laboratory. And this research belongs to Random Sampling. Moreover, the population school is about 362 students then taken by the researcher uses 16% to be sample. The result of data analysis shows that there is a significant difference between the students’ listening skill in experimental class and control class. With the average score of experimental pre-test is 83.67 and the average score of control pre-test is 75.25. Next, the average score of experimental post-test is 90 and the average score of control post-test is 84.7. In addition, since the two classes are homogenous the data analysis for the pre-test and post-test scores was calculated to use the t-test. It is concluded from the result of hypothesis test where t count is larger than t table with one percent (0.99) level of significant (tcount = 7.44 > ttable = 2.39). As the result, the H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means that this research has proved the use of language laboratory can increase and develop students’ ability on listening.
