Abstract

This study aims to explain how the themes in the three short stories about the black cat myth have the same mythical concept and how the black cat myth can effects the characters in the three short stories. This study was analyze by using Levi Strauss Structuralism theory. Levi-Strauss explains myths in his own way, starting by telling a story from the beginning how these myths can grow, develop and be believed by a group of people in an area. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research to describe the influence of the theme with the formation of the characterization. The data collection technique in this study consisted of several stages, first the writer read the short stories one by one, collected the data contained in the three short stories, then grouped the data. The result of this study indicates that all three stories identify black cats with the supernatural. In the story, which has a mystical theme, the mythical black cat seems to have this magical power so that it has an impact on changing the characters of the three main characters or characterizations in the short story.
