Abstract

This study aims to describe mimicry memorization method to increase students' vocabulary mastery at SMP Assa'adah Limbangan Garut. This includes vocabulary mastery, pronunciation, and memorization of vocabulary. The purpose of this research are: First, To find out students' vocabulary mastery before implementing using the mimicry memorization method. Second, To find out students' vocabulary mastery after implementing using the mimicry memorization method. Third, to determine whether there is a significant difference before and after using the mimicry memorization method. This study used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design. Participants in this study included seventh grade of SMP Assa'adah Limbangan Garut, consisting of 24 students. Data collection techniques used in this study were written tests of multiple-choice questions and matching words with one pre-test and post-test group. The results showed a significant difference in the improvement of vocabulary mastery. Meanwhile, the statistical data calculation showed that the average results of students in the pre-test with a score of 43.54, and 89.79 in the post-test. Thus, the statistical calculation on the post-test score indicates that the use of mimicry memorization method is effectively able to affect significant changes in students' vocabulary mastery. This was also evidenced by the paired sample T-test, as well as N-gain analysis showed 0.000 were less than 0.05. As a consequence, N-gain analysis showeds a score with a mean of 0.8334, or (0.8334 > 0.7). This mean, based on the category, the interpretation is high. This sudy conclude that, the use of mimicry memorization method affects the improvement of students' vocabulary mastery. Therefore, this method can be implemented as one of the methods of teaching English vocabulary.
