Abstract

This research aims to analyze Chris Watts’ words use and stage of reaction in his investigation interview. This research uses the latest version of an application called Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC-22) which is used to analyze and categorize the words in the interview video transcripts. It is a forensic linguistics analysis that uses one of the stages of the law enforcement process as its object. This research also uses linguistics theories such as lexical and semantics basis for interpreting words literally. Because it uses the words in the transcript of a video interview, this research uses a qualitative method. The researcher used the results of analysis from LIWC-22 which grouped the words in the transcript into several traditional dimensions and summary variables. As a result, this research shows that the traditional dimensions are I-words: 6.29%, Social Words: 13.78%, Positive Words: 0.63%, Negative Words: 0.17%, and Cognitive Processes: 15.23%. In addition, it is also known that the summary variables owned are Analytic: 11.3%, Clout: 43.13%, Authenticity: 73.8%, and Emotional Tone: 38.4%. Apart from that, in this research, it was also found that Chris Watts' stage of reaction consisted of three stages. In the first stage, Chris Watts is able to tell all the chronology in a calm manner. In the second stage, Chris Watts started to show a suspicious side. In the last stage, Chris Watts tries to convince him that he is innocent.
