Abstract

English is an international language used for communication by people all over the world (Byslina Maduwu, 2016). The use of English requires several components, one of which is to improve pronunciation. in this study the way is to use the mimicry method which helps teachers to make students interested in learning and make the teaching process more active. This study aims 1) How is the students’ English pronuncation before using Mim-Mem (Mimicry Memorization) method? 2)How is the students’ English pronuncation after using Mim-Mem (Mimicry Memorization) method? 3) Is there any signifcant difference of students' pronunciation before and after using Mim-Mem method? Data collection was conducted with oral test as the sampling technique. Furthermore, the participants of this study were 33 high school class 10 students. This study was conducted at SMAN 1 Cariu which is Bogor, West Java. Participants were given a pre-test before treatment and a post-test after treatment. The participants were given three treatments during the teaching and learning process. The results of statistical data analysis showed that the average score of students' pronunciation ability before being taught with the mim-mem method was 48.18 with a low category, while the average score of students' pronunciation ability after being taught with the mim-mem method was 87.27 with a high category. This means the score of students' pronunciation skills has increased by using the mim-mem method. Furthermore, based on the calculation with the paired T test, the tcount with Sig. 0.000, which is lower than 0.05. In other words, it shows that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted while the hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. This shows that there is a significant increase in students' pronunciation ability after being taught using the mim-mem method in Class X students of SMAN 1 Cariu. In conclusion, this study believes that the mim-mem method provides an improvement in students' pronunciation scores.
