Abstract

ENGLISH : This research motivated by use of slang by Generation Z which is uploaded in posts on Twitter accounts belonging to Rich Brian and Niki Zefanya. The aims of this study were: 1) to identify the types and functions of the slang words used by Rich Brian and Niki Zefanya and 2) to find differences in the slang words used between them. This study uses theory of Leonard Bloomfield (1993) & Guth (1962) to analyze the types of slang words, the theory of Keith Allan & Kate Burridge (2006) to analyze the function of slang, and Yanchun Zhou & Yanhong Fan (2013) to find differences in slang based on gender. The research used a qualitative method. And focuses on the last three years from 2020 to 2022 as main data. From the discussion, it was found that a total of 83 slang words were different from of two accounts. In Brian's account found the types: abbreviation (10), the wrong talk funny one (10), shortened form (12), interjection (8), figurative (11), and nickname (6). Meanwhile, in Zefanya's account, the types were found: abbreviation (6), the wrong talk funny one (4), shortened form (5), interjection (5), figurative (4), and nickname (2). Each of the 83 tweets has a different function, including addressing, showing intimacy, starting casual conversations, expressing impressions, forming an intimate atmosphere, showing self-identity, and achieving meaning. The difference can be seen between them that Brian's choice of slang words seems more free, noble, and harsh. While on Zefanya's account still feels free, but rarely writes slang words that harsh in tone. INDONESIA : Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh penggunan bahasa gaul oleh Generasi Z yang diunggah dalam postingan akun Twitter milik Rich Brian dan Niki Zefanya. Tujuan penelitian ini: 1) untuk mengidentifikasi jenis dan fungsi dari kata gaul yang digunakan oleh Rich Brian dan Niki Zefanya sebagai Generasi Z pada postingan Twitter dan 2) untuk menemukan perbedaan kata gaul yang dipakai antara mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Leonard Bloomfield (1993) & Guth (1962) untuk menganalisis jenis kata gaul, teori Keith Allan & Kate Burridge (2006) untuk menganalisis fungsi dari kata gaul, dan Yanchun Zhou & Yanhong Fan (2013) untuk menemukan perbedaan kata gaul berdasarkan gender. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif. Penelitian ini berfokus pada tiga tahun terakhir yakni dari 2020 hingga 2022 sebagai data utamanya. Dari pembahasan ditemukan keseluruhan 83 kata gaul berbeda dari tweet kedua akun tersebut. Dalam akun Rich Brian terdapat bentuk: abbreviation (10), the wrong talk funny one (10), shortened form (12), interjection (8), figurative (11), dan nickname (6). Sedangkan dalam akun Niki Zefanya ditemukan jenis: abbreviation (6), the wrong talk funny one (4), shortened form (5), interjection (5), figurative (4), dan nickname (2). Masing-masing dari 83 tweet mempunyai fungsi yang berbeda, diantaranya untuk mengalamatkan, menunjukkan keintiman, memlulai percakapan santai, mengungkapkan kesan, membentuk suasana intim, menunjukkan identitas diri, dan mencapai makna. Perbedaan yang terlihat dari kedua akun tersebut yaitu pemilihan kata gaul oleh Brian terkesan lebih bebas, luhur, dan kasar. Sementara akun Zefanya masih terasa kebebasannya, tapi jarang menuliskan kata gaul yang bernada kasar.
