Abstract

Moral is a teaching about good or bad received generally about behavior, attitude, obligation, and so on. In many novel or other literary works there are many moral values that the author wanted to convey to the reader because it serves as entertainment and educational media for the reader to build the character. This means the authors really concern about moral. The aim of this research is to descript the form of moral value and the form of presentation of moral value in The Hobbit novel. The researcher chose moral value as the object of the research because literature is reflection of the people in real life so there must be many morals that will be useful for the reader to habit it in the real life. This research is a descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research is The Hobbit novel by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. The theory used in this research. This research used Nurgiyantoro’s theory where moral value can be divided into three forms; relationship between Human and themselves, relationship between Human and other Human, and relationship between Human and God. In this novel there are only two forms of moral value; relationship between Human and themselves with 39 data and relationship between Human and other Human with 31 data. There are two forms of presentation of moral value in this novel; direct way with 61 data and indirect way with 6 data.
