Abstract

ENGLISH : Assertive speech acts are statements made by a speaker to convey information, express beliefs, or provide descriptions about the world. In other words, they are used to make claims, assert facts, or present something as true. When a speaker engages in an assertive speech act, they are making a commitment to the truth value of the statement they are expressing. This study aims to determine the categories and functions of assertive speech acts from Taylor Swift's speech at New York University 2022 Commencement. This research used Searle's (1979) theory. The object of this research is Taylor Swift's speech. The data in this research are analyzed by qualitative descriptive method. Based on the research results of the categories of assertive speech acts, researcher found 44 assertive acts of stating, 3 assertive acts of reporting, 4 assertive acts of concluding, 8 assertive acts of suggesting, and 6 assertive acts of complaining. While the research results from the function of assertive acts, researcher found 3 functions of reporting, 26 functions of stating, 12 functions of describing, 13 functions of claiming, 5 functions of predicting, and 6 functions of complaining. The researcher concluded that the categories of assertive speech act that are mostly used in Taylor Swift's speech are stating and suggesting. Meanwhile, the most used assertive functions are stating and claiming. INDONESIA : Tindak tutur asertif adalah pernyataan yang dibuat oleh pembicara untuk menyampaikan informasi, mengekspresikan keyakinan, atau memberikan deskripsi tentang dunia. Dengan kata lain, tindak tutur asertif digunakan untuk membuat klaim, menegaskan fakta, atau menyatakan sesuatu sebagai sesuatu yang benar. Ketika seorang pembicara terlibat dalam tindak tutur asertif, mereka membuat komitmen terhadap nilai kebenaran dari pernyataan yang mereka ungkapkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kategori dan fungsi tindak tutur asertif dari pidato Taylor Swift di New York University 2022 Commencement. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Searle (1979). Objek penelitian ini adalah pidato Taylor Swift. Data dalam penelitian ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dari kategori tindak tutur asertif, peneliti menemukan 44 tindak tutur asertif menyatakan, 3 tindak tutur asertif melaporkan, 4 tindak tutur asertif menyimpulkan, 8 tindak tutur asertif menyarankan, dan 6 tindak tutur asertif mengeluh. Sedangkan hasil penelitian dari fungsi tindak tutur asertif, peneliti menemukan 3 fungsi melaporkan, 26 fungsi menyatakan, 12 fungsi menggambarkan, 13 fungsi mengklaim, 5 fungsi memprediksi, dan 6 fungsi mengeluh. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa kategori tindak tutur asertif yang paling banyak digunakan dalam pidato Taylor Swift adalah menyatakan dan menyarankan. Sedangkan fungsi asertif yang paling banyak digunakan adalah menyatakan dan mengklaim.
