Abstract

Literature can be considered as a mirror for a particular society. It describes how society is formed, how it works, or what society is like. Society in the novel can represent the actual social conditions of a certain place and time. The purpose of this research is to describe The Representation of Victorian era in Lewiss Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. This research uses a qualitative method that relies on verbal and non-numeric data as fundamental analysis and problem solving, this research using a sociological approach method to discovering the meaning of the imagination in literary works by learning about society, social classes, family, economi, nature and so on as a result that Alice’s in Wonderland and Throught the Looking-Glass might be viewed as a snapshot of reality that was turned into a fiction novel capturing the social lives of Victorian Era. The findings concluded that there are 7 parts of Victorian society that represented in these two novels. starting from: Social Structure of Victorian Society, Victorian Family, Victorian Women, Religion, Morality, Economic problems, to Victorian values. The research concluded that the novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass describes the social situation at the time the novel was produced. the results of this research are useful for adding to the wealth of knowledge, especially about literature, and also useful for people who want to learn more and know about the Victorian era in literary work.
