Abstract

ENGLISH: Liberal Feminism is a perspective that advocates for granting women full individual freedom. This ideology asserts that freedom and equality are rooted in rationality and the separation of the private and public spheres. Women also possesses the capacity to think and act rationally. The root of women's oppression and subjugation lies in women's own shortcomings. Women must prepare themselves to compete in the "free competition" and attain an equal standing with men. This research focuses on analyzing liberal feminism as portrayed in the book A Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft (1792). This research purposes are to identify liberal feminism in A Vindication of The Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft and to analyze the effects of liberal feminism in A Vindication of The Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft. The researcher utilizes the theories of Friedan & Butler, which are related to liberal feminism and gender equality. Qualitative methods and content analysis are employed to explore these questions in depth and find answers. This research gathers 95 data, which are then merged using the analysis of liberal feminism and its effect, namely gender equality. Then, 95 data explained how the liberal feminism, as portrayed in the book, the book rejects the notion of women being solely valued for their physical appearance and argues against their objectification and trivialization by men. Wollstonecraft critiques the idea of women being subservient to men's desires, advocating instead for women to prioritize their own development and growth as rational beings. The effect of liberal feminism in A Vindication of the Rights of Woman is evident in its call for women's emancipation from the constraints of traditional gender roles and societal expectations, promoting gender equality. In conclusion, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman presents liberal feminism as a forceful call for gender equality, advocating for women's access to education, independence, and the cultivation of their intellect. INDONESIA: Feminisme Liberal adalah suatu pandangan yang mendorong pemberdayaan perempuan dengan memberikan kebebasan dan kesempatan secara individual. Aliran ini meyakini bahwa kebebasan dan kesetaraan dapat dicapai melalui rasionalitas dan pemisahan antara ruang pribadi dan publik. Perempuanpun memiliki kemampuan untuk berpikir dan bertindak secara rasional. Mereka menganggap bahwa ketertindasan dan keterbelakangan perempuan disebabkan oleh kesalahan perempuan itu sendiri. Oleh karena itu, perempuan diharapkan untuk mempersiapkan diri agar dapat bersaing dalam "persaingan bebas" dan mencapai posisi yang setara dengan lelaki. Penelitian ini berfokus pada analisis feminisme liberal sebagaimana digambarkan dalam buku A Vindication of the Rights of Woman karya Mary Wollstonecraft (1792). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi feminisme liberal dalam A Vindication of The Rights of Woman karya Mary Wollstonecraft dan menganalisis dampak feminisme liberal dalam A Vindication of The Rights of Woman karya Mary Wollstonecraft. Peneliti menggunakan teori Friedan & Butler, yang terkait dengan feminisme liberal dan kesetaraan gender. Metode kualitatif dan analisis konten digunakan untuk menyelami pertanyaan-pertanyaan tersebut secara mendalam dan menemukan jawabannya. Penelitian ini mengumpulkan 95 data, yang kemudian dileburkan dengan menggunakan analisis feminisme liberal dan efeknya, yaitu kesetaraan gender. Kemudian, 95 data menjelaskan bagaimana feminisme liberal, seperti yang digambarkan dalam buku ini, menolak pandangan bahwa wanita hanya dinilai berdasarkan penampilan fisik mereka dan berargumen melawan objektifikasi dan pen-trivialan terhadap wanita oleh pria. Wollstonecraft mengkritik gagasan bahwa wanita harus tunduk pada keinginan pria, dan sebaliknya menganjurkan agar wanita memprioritaskan perkembangan dan pertumbuhan mereka sebagai makhluk rasional. Efek feminisme liberal dalam A Vindication of the Rights of Woman terlihat dalam ajakannya untuk pembebasan wanita dari batasan peran gender tradisional dan harapan sosial, mendorong kesetaraan gender. Kesimpulannya, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman menyajikan feminisme liberal sebagai seruan yang kuat untuk kesetaraan gender, mengadvokasi akses wanita terhadap pendidikan, kemandirian, dan pengembangan intelektual mereka.
