Abstract

Mastering the communication skills of English is necessary for students to succeed in their respective fields because it is a language that is widely used internationally. The majority of schools require students to learn English even though it is not the primary language in Indonesia, where it is a foreign language. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of video animation learning media of EFL students’ speaking skills. This research uses a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design that consisted of one group pretest and post-test design class. The research site of this research is one of junior high school in Cipanas, Cianjur, West Java. The population of this research was the eight-grade students. While the sample of this research were 35 students of class 8C. This research used three different test to analyze the data. Those tests were the normality test, hypothesis test, and N-gain. The result of this research shows that there was a significant difference in mean scores between the pretest and post-test. It was determined from the pretest score that the mean score of EFL students’ speaking skill before being taught using animated video as learning media was 56.9. While the mean score on the post-test after being taught using animated video as learning media was 70.1. It indicates that using animated video as learning media was improves the score of EFL students’ speaking test, but the use of animated video as learning media to improve EFL students’ speaking ability is ineffective.
