Abstract

Literary works are one of the platforms that are often used to express ideas and opinions related to support for gender perceptions. Gender inequality occurs when one gender is victimized or disadvantaged when dealing with the other gender. This becomes one of the obstacles in society where men and women do not have the same rights or access. This can be found in the movie Enola Holmes 2 which has issues related to gender inequality. The problem of this research is formulated in two research questions: (1) What are types of gender inequality experienced by female characters in Enola Holmes 2 (2022) Film, (2) How are the efforts made by female characters in overcoming gender inequality in Enola Holmes 2 (2022) Film, (3) How does the male character's point of view influence the gender inequality that occurs in female characters in the movie enola holmes 2 (2022). This research was conducted using a qualitative method which was then analyzed using the concept of gender supported by Marxist Feminist theory. Based on the analysis of the data found, there are 29 data that show the experiences of female characters and the efforts of female characters in overcoming gender inequality. There are 16 data divided into several forms of gender inequality such as marginalization as much as 4 data, stereotyping as much as 3 data, subordination as much as 5 data, and violence as much as 4 data. Meanwhile, there are 13 data that show the efforts of female characters in overcoming gender inequality, which are divided into 4 data on rebellion and resistance, 2 data on achievement and success, 3 data on self- strengthening, and 4 data on solidarity and support. In addition, there are 6 data that show the male character's point of view in influencing gender inequality. The findings of this study are that the existence of the concept of gender makes the existence of female characters in Enola Holmes 2 film in a disadvantageous position, resulting in gender inequality in the form of marginalization, stereotyping, subordination, and violence. On the other hand, female characters in Enola Holmes 2 also have power over themselves. They can fight oppression by showing several factors such as rebellion and resistance, achievement and success, self- strengthening, and solidarity and support to overcome gender inequality experienced by female characters in Enola Holmes 2.
