Abstract

ENGLISH : This research aims to analyze connotative, denotative, and mythical meanings and group memory signifiers according to types of memory. This research combines two different theories, Semiotics and cognitive theory. "All Too Well: The Short Film" is a work by Taylor Swift, who directed the short film herself. It was initially released as a song titled "All Too Well" in 2012, then re-released as "All Too Well (Taylor's Version)" and "All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version) (From The Fault)" in 2021. Following these three versions, "All Too Well: The Short Film" was released in October 2021. The song and short film tell the same story, depicting how someone remembers vividly every memory with a person they parted ways with a long time ago. In this research, numerous symbols related to the theory of memory are found within the lyrics. The lyrics in "All Too Well" contain many connotative meanings that can be analyzed using Roland Barthes' semiotics theory. The method used in this research is the theory of memory by Atkinson and Shiffrin to analyze memory signifiers, including types of memory such as SM (Sensory Register Memory), STM (Short-Term Memory), LTM (Long-Term Memory), and also to analyze denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings in semiotics by Roland Barthes. Based on the analysis, signifiers of memory in SM can be found through lyrics containing meanings with clues based on recent information or facts that human senses can sense. STM can be found in lyrics containing meanings from clues that can retrieve old information from storage to be remembered clearly. Meanwhile, LTM can be found in lyrics that narrate past information. In the lyrics analyzed using the theory of memory, connotative meanings are difficult to understand but deeply resonate with the listener. The relationship between verbal and visual signs in creating connotative meanings supports each other in capturing the reader's attention. In reality, both convey the same message to the reader but through different forms. "All Too Well: The Short Film" adalah sebuah karya dari Taylor Swift, yang menyutradarai sendiri film pendek tersebut. Lagu ini awalnya dirilis sebagai lagu berjudul "All Too Well" pada tahun 2012, kemudian dirilis ulang sebagai "All Too Well (Taylor's Version)" dan "All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version) (From The Fault)" pada tahun 2021. Mengikuti ketiga versi ini, "All Too Well: The Short Film" dirilis pada Oktober 2021.
