Abstract

ENGLISH : In this study, the researcher focused on discussing fantasy elements and build the plot contained in the novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. This research used fantasy genre classification theory as the main theory. The researcher focused on fantasy elements with the theory of Farah Mendleshon. Fantasy genre is one of the genres in popular literature that has magical and supernatural elements in it. Likewise, the novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a popular children's literature. The purpose of this study is to describe the fantasy elements in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and to describe the fantasy elements that constructing the plot in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The research method used in this study is literary criticism with a qualitative approach to analyze the data. The data is taken from the novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The results of this study show that the fantasy novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has four fantasy elements, namely: (1) the Portal-Quest, (2) the Immersive, (3) the Intrusive, and (4) the Liminal. Meanwhile, the fantasy elements build the plot in this novel can be summarized into three parts, namely (1) the beginning, (2) the middle, and (3) the end, with a progressive plot line. Based on the research that has been done by researcher, the researcher suggest for further research on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the research does not always examine the fantasy element although the fantasy element considers the genre of the novel. Future researchers can analyze it from different perspectives. The novel can also be studied in a comparative form use the method of comparative literature. INDONESIA : Dalam penelitian ini peneliti fokus membahas elemen fantasi dan elemen fantasi yang membangun plot yang terdapat dalam novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori klasifikasi genre fantasi sebagai teori utama. Peneliti memfokuskan penelitian ini pada elemen fantasi dengan teori dari Farah Mendleshon. Genre fantasi merupakan salah satu genre dalam sastra popular yang memiliki unsur magis dan supranatural di dalamnya. Begitupun dengan novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, yang termasuk ke dalam sastra anak yang sangat popular. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan unsur-unsur fantasi dalam novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland dan mendeskripsikan unsur fantasi yang membangun alur dalam novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kritik sastra dengan pendekatan kualitatif untuk menganalisis data. Data diambil dari novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa novel fantasi Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland memiliki empat elemen fantasi, yaitu: (1) the Portal-Quest, (2) the Immersive, (3) the Intrusive, dan (4) the Liminal. Sedangkan elemen fantasi membangun plot dalam novel ini dapat disimpulkan menjadi tiga bagian, yaitu (1) bagian awal, (2) bagian tengah, dan (3) bagian akhir, dengan alur plot progresif. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan oleh peneliti, peneliti menyarankan untuk penelitian selanjutnya mengenai Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, penelitian tersebut tidak selalu meneliti unsur fantasi meskipun unsur fantasi mempertimbangkan genre dari novel tersebut. Peneliti selanjutnya dapat menganalisis dari sudut pandang yang berbeda. Novel dapat dikaji dalam bentuk perbandingan dengan metode sastra bandingan.
