Abstract

This research explore how the students perceive the role of Micro Teaching course in preparing them for the Teaching Practicum course, and how they reflect on their learning and development as teachers. Therefore, this research aims to find out the students' experience in taking the Micro Teaching course, the students' experience in doing a Teaching Practicum course and the students' perception of their experience in the Micro Teaching course to their teaching skills development in the Teaching Practicum Course. This research using qualitative methods with narrative inquiry design. The research involved 11 students from the English Education Department at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, who had completed both Micro Teaching and Teaching Practicum courses. The data were collected through interviews and questionnaires. The findings revealed that the students had various experiences and perceptions of the Micro Teaching and Teaching Practicum courses, and that these courses had different impacts on their teaching skills development. As the result, Micro Teaching has a good impact for the teaching skills development in the Teaching Practicum course. The study also identified some challenges and benefits that the students encountered in both courses, and suggested some implications and recommendations for improving the teacher education program. The study contributes to the understanding of the role of Micro Teaching courses in preparing and developing students’ teaching skills for the Teaching Practicum course.
