Abstract
This study discusses religiosity and absurdity in City Upon a Hill and Khotbah di Atas Bukit. This research has the object City Upon a Hill by John Winthrop and Khotbah di Atas Bukit by Kuntowijoyo. Religiosity and absurdity are interesting concepts because both of these concepts emphasize individual relationships with other individuals. To see the absurdity and religiosity in both works, the writer uses comparative literature. Through comparative literature, the researcher will focus on the similarities and differences between the two works in terms of religiosity and absurdity. To find similarities and differences in the two works, the researcher will start by looking for the religiosity and absurdity of each of these works, after finding religiosity the researcher will try to classify any religiosity in the work into the religiosity dimension. The five dimensions are the ritual dimension, ideological dimension, intellectual dimension, experiential and consequential dimension. The same goes for absurdity. After discovering the absurdity, the researcher will classify any absurdity in the work into the form of absurdity. The five forms of absurdity are forms of alienation, forms of meaning of life, forms of suicide, forms of hope and forms of rebellion. Then to find the similarities and differences of the two works the researcher uses allusion. Allusion is used to find out what religiosity the author uses in his work. So the results of this study are the religiosity of what religion the author uses in his work and are there similarities and differences between the two literary works and what forms of absurdity exist in the two literary works.
