Abstract
During communication, language often fails to incorporate all the necessary information for a complete understanding of meaning, thereby necessitating an understanding of pragmatics. In pragmatic studies, there are several other crucial aspects related to the context, such as the cooperative principles. When these principles are violated in a conversation, it can lead to the occurrence of implicatures. This study discusses conversational implicatures that arise from maxim violation, which is a study in pragmatic linguistics that examines the intentions of speakers in conversation. Thus, this study aims to identify the types of maxims that are violated and implicatures that arise as a result of violation of the Maxim in Piers Morgan's interview with Andrew Tate. The data of this study were analyzed using the theory of conversational implicature by Herbert Paul Grice (1975). The methods used in these studies are qualitative research and conversation analysis. There were 15 data with 4 data on the maxim violation of quantity, 3 data on the maxim violation of quality, 5 data on the maxim violation of relation, and 3 data on the maxim violation of manner with 2 data on generalized conversational implicature and 12 data on particularized conversational implicature. The result showed that the maxim violation of relation is the most frequent data found for the types of maxim violations and particularized conversational implicature is the most frequent data found for the implicatures that arise as a result of violations of the maxim
