Abstract

In Indonesian society, language switching often occurs in everyday life, one of which is on social media. Language switching occurs because bilingual people use two languages in their conversations. Code switching is the use of one language to another in a sentence or utterance. Research on Nikita Willy's podcast which was published on her YouTube channel. In this research, researchers focus on the types, forms and reasons for code switching. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The data in the study came from video podcast transcripts. The analysis uses Hoffman theory (1991) for the types of code switching, as well as the reasons, and from forms used Bokamba (1989) and Fasold (1984) theory. In this research, 45 code switching data were found. Based on the 45 data types, 4 types of code switching were found, namely inter-sentential code switching (5 data), intra-sentential (28 data), tag switching (7 data) and establishing continuity (5 data). In analyzing forms, because there are 5 dialogues in the data and then they are separated so that they add 5 data. Specifically in the form code switching there are 50 data. Based on the data, 4 form of code switching were found, namely word (9 data), phrase (22 data), clause (4 data), and sentence (15 data). Then the researchers found 4 of the 7 reasons for code switching, namely talking about a particular topic (30 data), express solidarity: being empathetic about something (7 data), interjection (7 data), and the intention of clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor (1 data). In addition, the functions that are not found are the reason for code-switching, namely repetition used for clarification, quoting someone else and expressing identity.
