Abstract

This research investigates social and discourse deixis in the news special report of Queen Elizabeth II's Death. The objectives of the study are to know social and discourse deixis in the news special report. To find of the purpose of utterance, the research has two research questions which indicate process of analysis; 1) The types of social and discourse deixis are there in CBS news Media Special Report of the Queen Elizabeth’II Death. 2)The function of social and discourse deixis are there CBS news Media Special Report of the Queen Elizabeth’II Death. Levinson’s theory (1983) and qualitative research method applied in this research. The result of this research showed that the researcher found 88 data of social and discourse deixis. Social deixis found 41 data, 21 data absolute social deixis, then 20 data relational social, meanwhile Discourse deixis found 47 data , 22 data cataphora discourse deixis and 25 data anaphora discourse deixis. The result, utterance has purpose, means and reference that shows respect, politeness, closeness or refers to what is happening.
