Abstract
Illocutionary act is an act of uttering an utterance which aims to influence the speech partner to do something. Meanwhile, perlocutionary act is the speech partner’s reaction towards the speaker’s utterance. Every utterance people say could have different effects on listeners, depending on the context and knowledge that the listeners have. This research aims to identify the types of illocutionary and perlocutionary acts found in the video podcast, “Stray Kids' Bang Chan and Felix Catch Up with Eric Nam | Daebak Show S2 EP1”. This research used illocutionary act theory from Searle (1976) and perlocutionary act theory from Gu (1993). The method used is a qualitative method by data were collected purposively to meet the research problems. All collected data were then analyzed and discussed thematically: presenting the illocutionary acts followed by perlocutionary acts. Based on data analysis, 69 data related to illocutionary acts were found, namely representative (20 data), directive (36 data), commissive (3 data), expressive (9 data), and declarative (1 datum). Furthermore, 49 data related to perlocutionary acts were also found, namely verbal response (32 data), physical response (7 data), emotive response (7 data), cognitive response (2 data), motor reflexive responses (1 datum) and negative response (0 data). Thus, it can be concluded that among the five types of illocutionary acts, directive act was the most dominant act used by Eric Nam. The directive act was the most dominant because Eric Nam had the task of digging up information in depth by asking several interview questions. On the other hand, among the six types of perlocutionary acts, Bang Chan and Felix most often performed verbal responses. Verbal response was the most dominant type because Eric Nam used a lot of directive act. When Eric Nam asked several questions to the speech partner, the speech partner was encouraged to take action to answer the questions using their verbal sounds.
