Abstract
In English Language Teaching (ELT), educators use a variety of strategies to effectively engage students, with a particular focus on fostering critical thinking. One effective approach is integrating Video-Based Learning (VBL) with English grammar materials to enhance critical thinking skills. Critical thinking plays a crucial role in language education, and mastering grammar is essential for its development. VBL caters to diverse learning styles, such as visual, auditory, and hands-on approaches, making it a promising method to improve learning outcomes in ELT. By aligning video activities with Bloom's Taxonomy, educators can systematically promote cognitive development and critical thinking skills in language learning contexts. This research aims to describe the impact of Video-Based Learning for English Grammar Material fosters the ELT student’s Critical Thinking. This research uses qualitative methods with narrative inquiry to obtain more in-depth data regarding Fostering Critical Thinking in English Language Teaching (ELT) through Video-Based Learning Using English Grammar Materials. The research was conducted in UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung area with 10 students who enrolled in critical thinking in ELT course as research participants. The research results indicate that VBL has a substantial impacts on various dimensions of critical thinking on ELT students, spanning from recalling and comprehending foundational knowledge to applying, analysing, evaluating, and ultimately fostering the creation of innovative educational projects. VBL enhances critical thinking and encourages deeper engagement in language learning. In conclusion, this study highlights the significance of innovative teaching methods, specifically the integration of Video-Based Learning (VBL) in ELT. The findings underscore VBL's potential to substantially enhance critical thinking and foster deeper student engagement in language learning. By aligning VBL activities with Bloom's Taxonomy, educators can systematically promote cognitive development across various dimensions—from recalling foundational knowledge to creating innovative educational projects. The qualitative approach used in this research provided valuable insights into how VBL with English grammar materials enriches the learning experience, equipping students with the skills to confidently tackle complex language challenges with creativity.
