Abstract
Many literary works are illustrated in films. This makes the readers think about the meaning and what the author wants to convey with each scene in the film. Many films tell stories about real life, narratives about social conflict, war, and even slavery. Social conflict will always be around us. Certainly, the emergence of social conflict is based on the realities that occur in our lives. Social classes are one of the social conflicts that always exist. No wonder her presence has become a never-ending topic of conversation. Social conflicts have persisted, and social classes became the starting point for the establishment of slavery. In literary sociology, Social Classes and Slavery are central to illustrating how social conflict persists. In this research, the author wants to focus on Social Classes and Slavery in the movie Perfume The Story of a Murderer by Tom Tykwer. This study aims to identify the various social classes and forms of slavery, with the following research questions: 1) What kind of social classes in Perfume The Story of a Murderer by Tom Tykwer? 2) What types of slavery in Perfume The Story of a Murderer by Tom Tykwer? This research is a qualitative study that uses a descriptive method. Descriptive research involves a series of techniques used to determine, describe, or explain phenomena that occur naturally. Based on the research findings, the results indicate that the analyzed film reveals social classes and slavery in "Perfume The Story of a Murderer." It shows that there are two social classes: "Proletariat" and "Bourgeois." Additionally, there are four types of slavery: "Bondage of Goods," "Debt Bondage," "Forced Slavery," and "Forced Marriage." Among these types, the most frequently found are "Proletariat" and "Bondage of Goods," as the film largely tells the tragic stories of the lower class and their forms of suffering.
