Abstract

This research entitled Deciphering The Directive Utterances in Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab) Book of Bukhari Hadith English Translation aims to analyze the kinds of directive utterances and to find the sentence forms contained in directive utterances in Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab) Book of Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith English translation. This research applies the theory from Yule (1996) for the first question regarding with the kinds of directive utterances and Frank (1972) for the second question regarding with the sentence forms. The research design of this research is classified as qualitative descriptive research. In this analysis the researcher found 44 utterances of Hadith consist of 26 commands, 2 orders, 9 requests, and 7 suggestions. The most findings for kinds of directive utterances are commands since the Prophet as the speaker delivers his utterances to the hearer which has some authority to control over their actions. Following the analysis results of the first question, for the second question there are 44 sentence forms. The researcher did not find the exclamatory sentence forms and only found three sentence forms including 24 declaratives, 5 interrogatives, and 15 imperatives. The most findings for sentence forms are declaratives than other forms because it states the clarity and the ease of the statements to be recognized and understood easily by the hearer.
