Abstract

This research aims to describe: 1) who are forgotten heroes in Bendara Ikin and Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard, 2) why the warrior and farmer are considered forgotten heroes in Bendara Ikin and Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard, and 3) how forgotten heroes are represented through figurative language Bendara Ikin and Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard. The data used in this study are poems from two different countries, namely Ajip Rosidi’s Bendara Ikin which originated in Indonesia and Thomas Gray's Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard which originated from the United Kingdom. To analyze the subject in this research, researchers used descriptive qualitative research methods and a comparative literature approach because this research compares two literary works. The result of this research is that the forgotten heroes in Bendara Ikin are warriors who fight for the independence of their country, while in Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard are ordinary villagers who work as farmers. The reason why warriors and farmers are considered forgotten heroes in both poems is because of the absence of power and the unfair treatment they receive. Then, regarding the representation of forgotten heroes in both poems, there are several figurative languages such as visual imagery, tactile imagery, auditory imagery, metaphors, hyperbole, and symbols that represent forgotten heroes. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: 1) siapa pahlawan yang terlupakan dalam puisi Bendara Ikin dan Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard, 2) mengapa prajurit dan petani dianggap sebagai pahlawan yang terlupakan dalam puisi Bendara Ikin dan Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard, dan 3) bagaimana pahlawan yang terlupakan direpresentasikan melalui bahasa kiasan dalam puisi Bendara Ikin dan Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah puisi dari dua negara yang berbeda, yaitu Bendara Ikin karya Ajip Rosidi yang berasal dari Indonesia dan Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard karya Thomas Gray yang berasal dari Inggris. Untuk menganalisis subjek dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dan pendekatan sastra bandingan karena penelitian ini membandingkan dua karya sastra. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah pahlawan yang terlupakan dalam puisi Bendara Ikin adalah para pejuang yang memperjuangkan kemerdekaan negaranya, sedangkan dalam puisi Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard adalah warga desa biasa yang berprofesi sebagai petani. Alasan mengapa pejuang dan petani dianggap sebagai pahlawan yang terlupakan dalam kedua puisi tersebut adalah karena ketiadaan kekuasaan dan perlakuan tidak adil yang mereka terima. Kemudian, mengenai representasi pahlawan yang terlupakan dalam kedua puisi tersebut, terdapat beberapa bahasa kiasan seperti citraan penglihatan, citraan perabaan, citraan pendengaran, metafora, hiperbola, dan simbol-simbol yang merepresentasikan pahlawan yang terlupakan.
