Abstract

Sensation seeking is a trait that arises as a human need to gain change and new experiences, even though there are physical and psychological risks that are accepted (Zuckerman, 2007). In adolescence, sensation seeking appears to fulfill curiosity as a process of searching for self-identity. Due to curiosity and sexual hormonal urges, teenagers do various things to get their needs met. So the phenomenon of sexting emerged as one way for teenagers to fulfill this need. This research aims to find out whether there is an influence of sensation seeking on sexting behavior using quantitative methods. Research respondents were teenagers aged 12-18 years, obtained using convenience sampling techniques. Adapting the sensation seeking measurement tool from Arnett 1994 and Rosario 2021 for sexting. Data analysis used ordinal logistic techniques. The research results show that; (1) sensation seeking has 0.81% influence on sexting behavior; (2) aged 15-17 years or teenagers in the middle stage have higher sensation seeking and sexting scores than other stages; (3) romantic relationships and school environmental factors influence the level of sensation seeking and sexting.
